Week #40 – December 15-20, 2020
Kriya for Metabolism & Relaxation & Meditation on the Self

Overview

WEEK 40 – Kriya for Metabolism & Relaxation & Meditation on the Self

These two short kriyas combined create a very subtle experience. If you’re looking for a practice combining breath work and core, this is it. This class creates a perfect balance of energies. The meditation on the Self at the end is quite meaningful.

Remember – If you are on your Moon/Menstrual cycle no held breath, substitute with long and deep breathing.

CHANTS in this Kriya include:

Adi Mantra – I bow to the Creative Wisdom. I bow to the Divine Teacher within. This mantra is used to access the divine flow and self-knowledge within each of us. We chant it three times. Once for ourselves, once for the people in your class and once for the greater world.

SONGS & MUSIC in this Kriya include:

During the 7 minute shavasana I played Ardas by Singh Kaur from the Crimson Collection Vol 6 & 7, a beautiful meditative piece.

And during a portion of the opening kriyas for motivation: Yogi Amandeep Singh, Huu Hu (Slow, Medium, Fast).

Long Time Sun – Closing song of all Kundalini Yoga classes worldwide.
May the long time sun
Shine upon you
All love surround you
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on

PRANAYAMA – BREATHING in this Kriya includes:

Please check back. We are in the process of revising this content. – Thank you!

Kapalabhati Pranayama – A forced exhale through the nose, followed by an automatic inhale through the nose. The Inhale and Exhale are of equal force. This forced exhale may feel like you are blowing your nose, it is a good idea to have a tissue nearby, especially during a morning practice.

Note: There are some classes when we may also practice Breath of Fire through an open mouth, inhaling and exhaling through the nose. Keep the head steady and cheeks as well as you practice this “Cannon Breath.” When we do, I will make sure to explain what we are doing as we do it.

Inhaling Sat – Exhaling Nam (pronounced sut nahm)
Translation: My Truth is My Identity. Inhale Sat. Exhale Nam. This is the reverse of what we usually do when we breathe. We are inhaling while saying, “Sat/Sut” as we draw the belly to the spine. And then we relax we the belly saying “Nam.” Exhaling as the belly expands and pushes out.

ROCKY’S TAKEAWAY

Kriya for Metabolism & Relaxation and A Meditation On The Self
I really like combining these Pranayama breath practices: Breath of Fire/Kapalabhati Breath, Alternate Nostril Breath/Nadi Shodhana, and Sat Kriya.

Three Pranayamas in one practice. You will finish this 75-minute session energized and renewed. Experiencing Shavasana 55 minutes into the practice and then coming out to complete the practice with more breath of fire and concluding with a six-minute meditation creates a very grounding practice.

NOTE: See Pranayama section for further explanation of each Pranayama/breath practice. And have a tissue on hand, especially if practicing the forced nostril breath in the morning, you will be exhaling forcefully through your nose.

Sat Nam.
