The College Years & After Graduation

Rocky Blumhagen received his B.A. in vocal performance from Lewis and Clark College in Portland Oregon.  In his senior year he gave a cabaret performance rather than a classical recital for his degree, the first student to ever do so.

After graduation, as part of a two-man group called Windstone, Rocky performed with Gale Enger (1934-2022) “Gale was a musical genius, accomplished in the classical and popular musical fields. He even gave two stunning organ recitals at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.”  Rocky and Gale gave over 1500 nightclub performances in Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada and the U.S. Windstone recorded three albums.

Initial Careers & Back to the Stage

Rocky went on to have two completely different careers. His second was in radio on the sales/management side of large commercial radio stations in Portland Oregon.  For several years Rocky taught Radio University for the Portland Area Radio Council graduating students for careers in radio advertising and sales.

Rocky’s first career includes both singing and acting. Rocky  appeared in “Three Guys and a Piano” at The Indio, California Performing Arts Center.  For both his lead role in the comedy-mystery, “Who Killed Zachary Morgan?” at the Thorny Theatre, and as Peron in “Evita” at Palm Canyon Theatre, Rocky won Desert Entertainer Encore Awards (Palm Springs). He performed a new cabaret act written especially for the star studded Palm Springs Canyon Country Club, now called Indian Canyons Golf Resort, where he lived at the time. In the same year, 2007, Rocky attended the prestigious Yale Cabaret Conference in New Haven Connecticut.

During his Palm Springs years, in collaboration with show builder Jack Moore and pianist/arranger, Charlie Creasy, Rocky created many shows about some of the “greats” of the Great American Songbook.  For many years Rocky performed variations of his show at successful annual fundraisers for the Siletz Bay Music Festival on the central Oregon coast.

Spiritual Appreciation

Rocky has always loved singing in churches and has done so since he was ten years old.  Rocky was the Music Coordinator for the Religious Science Church of the Desert in Palm Desert, California, now called Spiritual Center of the Desert.

Rocky studied Spanish and German for many years and  is currently back on-line with Yogicstudies.com studying Sanskrit in preparation for his Oxford Fellowship in 2024. Over the last thirty years Rocky, with his husband Richard, have enjoyed extensive international travel and presently reside in San Francisco.

Rocky’s passions for life include the study of metaphysical teachings, yoga philosophy, practicing and teaching yoga, expanding his mind, body, voice, and spirit as the ultimate curiosity seeker. He approaches yoga as a practice of “full integration” connecting Breath, Body, Emotion, Intuition, Mind and Spirit.
