WHAT: University of Oxford Next Horizons Scholars program at Harris Manchester College

WHERE: My husband, Richard Royse and I have been accepted as scholars in the inaugural Next Horizons Scholars program at Harris Manchester College in joint partnership with The Rhodes Trust at the University of Oxford.

WHEN: January 15 – June 30, 2024. The program is comprised of two ten-week quarters in Oxford, England. We plan on spending the remainder of 2024 in Europe.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Oxford Next Horizons program and encourage you to explore their website for more information.

ABOUT: University of Oxford/Harris Manchester College operates under the scholarly tutorial program. There are 19 fellows in our inaugural cohort hailing from around the world with a variety of academic backgrounds and professions. In addition to our private tutors, our cohort will have weekly programming in addition to the Oxford Wednesday lectures campus wide. Our inter-generational connections with other Manchester College and Rhodes scholars will happen in our shared dining room.

PREPARATION: My assigned tutor is Sir James Mallinson, the renowned Yoga Sanskrit scholar, author, historian and practicing yogi. Professor Mallinson has three courses available via YogicStudies.com.

In preparation for my time at Oxford, my intent is to complete all three courses before my arrival. This self-study will help me develop my purpose-pathway in anticipation of my first meeting with Dr. Mallinson.

The Next Six Months

The next six months I intend to spend part of every day active on YogicStudies.com reviewing my yearlong Sanskrit course with Dr. Antonia Ruppel. I am also studying Roots of Yoga, Mallinson’s book by the same name co-authored with Mark Singleton.

Oxford 2024: I have already been assigned the Wellbeloved Room to offer Kundalini Yoga weekly campus wide, an opportunity for which I am most grateful. As a singer, I intend to participate in the Harris Manchester choral vespers every Wednesday evening in the Harris Manchester chapel before our weekly dinner.

Stay tuned for more photos and blog updates as our experience unfolds!
