Such a Moving Experience!
The sanctuary at Stanford Memorial Church is… well, I am old enough to know when I’m in the midst of a rare experience. It is not lost on me. I know I am breathing rarified air. Each moment feels more spacious, more alive. Yogis having the opportunity to practice in this beautiful light filled sanctuary where so many important events in the history of the University have taken place fills the space with an air of expectation. This is indeed a special structure where religious and spiritual life, ecumenical pursuits, academics, new thought leaders and Presidents, have all exchanged ideas and celebrated life.
In January and February of 2023, a dedicated group of yogis and yoginis participated in four memorable Friday nights, practicing yoga at MemChu. Together, we uplifted our spirits through movement and breathwork and bathed in the nurturing sounds of chants, gong, harmonium, music, and singing bowls.
I was teaching in the very spot where the Dalai Lama spoke. How could we not feel a sense of excitement? We chanted, we breathed, we were uplifted by the sequences/kriyas and left nurtured and connected. Even my little harmonium filled the sanctuary with resonant sounds. I will remember those nights as long as I live. Sat Nam.
A warm word of deep appreciation to all the Stanford students, affiliates, and DCI alums in attendance and all who made this possible. Sat nam. ~ Rocky
